The festival\u2019s program manager <strong>Milja Mikkola<\/strong> talked to one of the leading Irish directors <strong>Lenny Abrahamson<\/strong>, whose films <em>Room<\/em> (2015) and <em>Frank<\/em> (2014) were shown later.<\/p>\n<p>World famous <em>Guled &amp; Nasra<\/em> (2021) from director <strong>Khadar Ayderus Ahmed<\/strong> was also presented and was received with thrill here too. The director was present after the screening and answered questions from the audience.<\/p>\n<p>We also saw two premieres on Thursday. <strong>Mikko Niskanen<\/strong>\u2019s masterpiece, the remastered <em>Eight Deadly Shots<\/em> (1972) was shown for the first time in Lapinsuu cinema with an introduction by the director\u2019s son <strong>Jorma Niskanen<\/strong>. The five-hour behemoth gathered a good audience of friends of Finnish film history.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Einari Paakkanen<\/strong>\u2019s second feature documentary film <em>Karaoke Paradise<\/em> (2022) received its first screening naturally in in the Big Tent, where karaoke screenings usually take place. The filmmakers treated the audience after the film with an outside karaoke event on the shore of Kitinen River, and the audience was thrilled about the possibility to sing their hearts out alongside the stars of the film.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday many masterclasses continued too. <strong>Kaija Saariaho<\/strong>\u2019s masterclass opened in Kitisen Kino with <strong>Ingmar Bergman<\/strong>\u2019s final work <em>Saraband<\/em> (2003) with a full house. Saariaho told that she fell in love with Bergman\u2019s films as a young woman and that they have inspired her music. In <em>Saraband<\/em> the music intertwined with bergmanesque portrayal of humanity and the audience was captivated.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Timo Vesala<\/strong>\u2019s masterclass presented <strong>A.J. Annila<\/strong>\u2019s horror film <em>Sauna<\/em> (2008) which also filled Cinema Kitinen to the last seat. The film was filmed in location on a swamp, and the lead actor <strong>Ville Virtanen<\/strong> stated that the Finnish mental landscape consists of swamps, lakes and forest. \u201cThe swamp is a terrifying and mystical place but to me it\u2019s church.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The windy Thursday night continued with a tense atmosphere to the end. <strong>Olaf M\u00f6ller<\/strong>\u2019s masterclass of European crime films from the 1960s showed <em>Taste of Fear<\/em> (1961). <strong>Hanna Bergholm<\/strong>\u2019s classy international festival prize winner <em>Hatching<\/em> (2022) terrified viewers in the Big Tent and <strong>Leos Carax<\/strong>\u2019s intense rock opera <em>Annette<\/em> (2021) fascinated viewers in Lapinsuu cinema.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Photo: Viena Kyt\u00f6joki<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The second day of the festival started in rainy weather but enclosed in a warm atmosphere with a traditional morning discussion.
