{"id":293,"date":"2017-03-31T14:56:59","date_gmt":"2017-03-31T11:56:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/msfilmfestival.fi\/?p=293"},"modified":"2017-05-03T15:08:16","modified_gmt":"2017-05-03T12:08:16","slug":"midnight-sun-film-festival-presents-silent-film-serving-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/msfilmfestival.fi\/en\/midnight-sun-film-festival-presents-silent-film-serving-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"Midnight Sun Film Festival Presents Its Silent Film Serving of 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Finnish silent films by Cannes winner, the new composition of a 1925 horror movie classic and a masterpiece saved from oblivion, all on a glorious silver screen accompanied by live music: Midnight Sun Film Festival is proud to present its silent film serving of 2017!<\/p>\n<p><em>The Happiest Day In The Life of Olli M\u00e4ki<\/em>\u00a0director, Cannes winner<strong>\u00a0Juho Kuosmanen<\/strong>\u00a0introduces his remake of\u00a0<em>The Moonshiners<\/em>, the first film in Finnish cinema history, at the 32nd\u00a0Midnight Sun Film Festival.<\/p>\n<p>The traditional Midnight Fun Film Festival silent screening will follow the film&#8217;s premiere at the Loud Silents film festival and will be accompanied by Ykspihlaja Kino Orchestra and internationally celebrated foley artist <strong>Heikki Kossi<\/strong>. The screening will also include Kuosmanen\u2019s previous silent short <em>Romu-Mattila ja kaunis nainen<\/em> (2012).<\/p>\n<p>As our annual Friday silent film, the renowned <em>Avanti!<\/em> chamber orchestra, led by world famous Canadian conductor\u00a0<strong>Gabriel Thibaudeau<\/strong>, present Thibaudeau\u2019s new composition of\u00a0<strong>Rupert Julian<\/strong>\u00a0classic\u00a0<em>The Phantom of the Opera<\/em>\u00a0(1925).\u00a0<strong>Lon Chaney<\/strong>, the man with a thousand faces, haunts the Paris Opera House as the deformed Phantom. As a rare treat, opera singer\u00a0<strong>Reetta Haavisto<\/strong> performs the soprano solo.<br \/>\nTo wrap up the triptych of the silent film serving, Midnight Sun Film Festival is proud to present an almost forgotten masterpiece saved from oblivion:<em>\u00a0The Wonderful Lies of Nina Petrovna<\/em>\u00a0(1929) is tragedy of gossamer proportions and accompanied with piano by Thibaudeau himself.\u00a0<strong>Brigitte Helm<\/strong>\u00a0of <em>Metropolis<\/em>\u00a0plays her career role as the woman saving the life of her loved one.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Finnish silent films by Cannes winner, the new composition of a 1925 horror movie classic and a masterpiece saved from oblivion, all on a glorious silver screen accompanied by live music: Midnight Sun Film Festival is proud to present its silent film serving of 2017!
