Festival goers bravely lined up for tickets despite the somewhat cool weather.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The festival took a running start in the morning with The Eternal Youth of Cinema matinee. French cinema pedagogist <strong>Nathalie Bourgeois<\/strong> took the audience on a journey through visual storytelling and the history of cinema via legendary film scenes and film excerpts from films made by school children.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wednesday afternoon\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/msfilmfestival.fi\/en\/other-events\/skabmagovat\/\">screening of indigenous people\u2019s short films<\/a> was arranged in co-operation with Inari\u2019s <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sk\u00e1bmagovat film festival. The films tackled with people\u2019s relationship with culture, land, roots and identity. In addition to S\u00e1pmi films, the screening also offered stories from North America and Greenland.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The tremendously popular opening screening of <a href=\"https:\/\/msfilmfestival.fi\/en\/guests\/mahamat-saleh-haroun\/\"><strong>Mahamat-Saleh Haroun<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/msfilmfestival.fi\/en\/movies\/a-season-in-france\/\">A Season in France<\/a> <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">led the audience on a journey through the emotional tempests of refugees. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year\u2019s first accompanied film screening took place already on the opening day. <strong>Erik Blomberg<\/strong>\u2019s much loved classic <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/msfilmfestival.fi\/en\/movies\/the-white-reindeer\/\">The White Reindeer<\/a> <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was screened at the Big Tent accompanied by the 40 person strong Ruamjai choir.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Olaf M\u00f6ller<\/strong>, one of the leading lights of The Midnight Sun Film Festival, premiered his <a href=\"https:\/\/msfilmfestival.fi\/en\/movies\/master-class-olaf-moller\/\">Master Class series of football films<\/a> at the School in the early evening. The audience got to experience the hilarious British murder mystery <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/msfilmfestival.fi\/en\/movies\/the-arsenal-stadium-mystery\/\">The Arsenal Stadium Mystery<\/a><\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from 1939.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Mikko M\u00e4kel\u00e4<\/strong>\u2019s new Finnish Film <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/msfilmfestival.fi\/en\/movies\/a-moment-in-the-reeds\/\">A Moment In The Reeds<\/a> <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">got its Finnish premiere at the Big Tent on Wednesday night, while the Small Tent screened <a href=\"https:\/\/msfilmfestival.fi\/en\/guests\/katharina-wyss\/\"><strong>Katharina Wyss<\/strong><\/a>\u2019 new Swiss film <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/msfilmfestival.fi\/en\/movies\/sarah-plays-a-werewolf\/\">Sarah Plays A Werewolf<\/a><\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which afterwards inspired a lively discussion between audience and director. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/msfilmfestival.fi\/en\/other-events\/sounds-of-space-in-films\/\">Sound<\/a> is one the main themes of this year\u2019s festival, and it was introduced with a mindblowing post-midnight Big Tent screening of the Academy Award winning sci-fi spectacle <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/msfilmfestival.fi\/en\/movies\/arrival\/\">Arrival<\/a><\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The 33rd edition of The Midnight Sun Film Festival started this Wednesday.
