EHSAN KHOSHBAKHT

The multitalented Ehsan Khoshbakht is a curator, critic, filmmaker, and a co-director of the Midnight Sun Film Festival’s kindred spirit, the Italian film festival Il Cinema Ritrovato in Bologna. Iranian, London-based Khoshbakht is an architect by training. A prodigious writer, his works have focused on subjects like architecture, American and Iranian cinema, and jazz. His first feature-length documentary Filmfarsi (2019) focuses on the colourful history of Iranian cinema before the 1979 revolution through material from films that survived thanks to illegal VHS tapes. He is currently working on his second documentary feature. In his latest book Asghar Farhadi: Interviews (2023), he delves into the giant of modern Iranian cinema, director Asghar Farhadi. At the Midnight Sun Film Festival, Khoshbakht holds a master class on Far from Home and lectures the audience on the relationship between film and architecture, leading into István Szabó’s 25 Fireman’s Street.
