The makers of this film Gone with the Mind have respected the expression and the traditions of the silent comedy films, a fact that makes the sound track of the film quite interesting. Gone with the Mind is primarly an actors’ film. Based on the ancient tradition of theatre companies, the film’s dialogues have been created by the actors and the stage sets have beem allowed to dictate the flow of the scenes.
Janne Kuusi directed his first feature film In the Year of the Monkey in 1983. He also directed a feature-length documentary The Song (1986) before Gone with the Mind. Nowadays Kuusi is also known from his features Kukkia ja sidontaa (2004), Prince of Soap (2006) and his documentary Bohemian Eyes (2011) which reminisces the life of an actor and Kuusi’s childhood friend Matti Pellonpää. Kuusi has also influenced the next generation of filmmakers directly by teaching at the University of Art and Design.
