Wherever the merchant navy boatswain goes, trouble follows, with the rest of the crew usually tagging along. When he enters a bar, brawls happen like refrains in a song. Come morning, the purser might throw some money for the damage with proper disdain at the establishment’s owner, but the captain is worried: What about discipline? That damn boatswain simply needs to settle down. To get matters moving, the captain grabs the bull by the horns: his libido. Enter the foxy lady journalist who’s allowed to sail along on the vessel’s next voyage to scenic Leningrad. She’s entrusted by the captain with a secret mission: seduce the boatswain, reject the boatswain, drive the boatswain nuts enough to make him propose – with the latter part not mentioned to the journalist, as she’s also not the marrying kind as such. Sneaky bastard, that captain! But lust and a love of independence see to an unexpected turn of events.

Gaudy. Exuberant. Weird. Hollywood-glitzy (almost). Possibly a bit gay. Definitely cherishing women checking out hot sailor asses. If you watched Joachim Hasler’s Hot Summer (1968) in Sodankylä two years ago, don’t think you know what awaits here – Journey into the Nuptial Bed is very different! (OM)
