Festival Favourite Fallen Leaves Gets an Additional Screening – the Second Screening Moves to the Big Tent

Aki Kaurismäki’s Fallen Leaves will get an additional screening at the Midnight Sun Film Festival on Sunday, June 18. The film’s second screening moves from Cinema Lapinsuu to the Big Tent, and new tickets to the screening go on sale on Thursday, June 8 at 5 pm. The tickets to the additional screening will go on sale on the day of the screening.

The two Finnish premiere screenings of Aki Kaurismäki’s Fallen Leaves at the Midnight Sun Film Festival sold out in mere minutes, when the Festival’s ticket sales started last week. We are now thrilled to announce that there will be an additional screening of the film on Sunday night. In addition to this, the film’s other, previously announced Sunday screening will move from Cinema Lapinsuu to the Big Tent. The Big Tent screening will take place on Sunday, June 18 at 3 pm, and the additional screening will be held on the same day in Cinema Lapinsuu at 9.30 pm.

With the move to the Big Tent, we are able to release more tickets to the second screening. They go on sale on Thursday, June 8 at 5 pm in our online ticket shop. The tickets to the additional screening will go on sale on Sunday, June 18 at 9 am in our ticket sales points and at 9.30 am online.

The winner of Cannes Film Festival’s Jury Prize, Fallen Leaves is a timeless fairytale that delves into our current-day issues, telling the story of a couple (Jussi Vatanen and Alma Pöysti) falling in love in the Kallio district of Helsinki. The film will arrive in theatrical distribution all over Finland on September 15.

The Midnight Sun Film Festival honours the memory of Kaija Saariaho with an additional screening of the new Finnish documentary on the composer, Echoes of the Universe – the Music of Kaija Saariaho, in Kitisen kino on Wednesday, June 14 at 2.45 pm. Last year, Saariaho presented her favourite films to the Festival audience with her Carte Blanche selection. Riitta Rask’s documentary offers us new insight into the artist’s life and lets Saariaho and her music speak for themselves.

The Festival guest Emmanuel Mouret’s films have already been very popular with the audience in the ticket pre-sales. Mouret’s Caprice, a last-minute addition to the programme, will be screened in Kitisen kino on Saturday, June 17 at 11.30 pm. The romantic comedy is the last of Mouret’s works to date in which the auteur himself appears in a starring role, in a Woody Allen-esque turn as a slightly awkward guy who finds himself caught between two lovely actresses. Tickets to the screening are on sale now.
