Screening Ticket Sales Start Today – Changes to the Festival’s Filmmaker Guest List

With the Midnight Sun Film Festival starting in two weeks, individual ticket sales start today. The guest list will be completed by director Veljko Vidak, whose documentary Cinéma Laika celebrates its world premiere at the Festival. Arturo Ripstein and Paz Alicia Garciadiego have had to cancel their participation at the festival.

Individual screening tickets of the Midnight Sun Film Festival go on sale today on May 31 at 5 pm in the festival’s online store. Information on ticket sales can be found here. Read more about the festival programme and schedule on our website.

Veljko Vidak, the director of the documentary Cinéma Laika, world-premiering in Sodankylä, completes the Festival’s guest list. Croatian Vidak recently spent more than a year in Karkkila, documenting step by step how a new cultural oasis, Kino Laika, founded by Aki Kaurismäki and writer Mika Lätti, grew up on the local factory estate and quickly gained great popularity and a cult reputation.

We have a hilarious addition to our programme. On the nocturnal hours between Friday and Saturday, we’ll get to enjoy Mika Kaurismäki’s film Cha Cha Cha (1989)! The Finnish premiere of Aki Kaurismäki’s Fallen Leaves will be held, contrary to the previous announcement, in the Festival’s Big Tent on Saturday!

We also have some more unfortunate news regarding filmmaker guests at the festival. “Due to personal reasons, Arturo Ripstein has unfortunately had to cancel his participation at the festival. His films, true rarities in Finland, will nevertheless remain in the programme as a tribute to the soon 80-year-old Mexican master’s long career,” tells the Midnight Sun Film Festival’s Artistic Director Timo Malmi. Ripstein’s long-time cinematic collaborator Paz Alicia Garciadiego is also unable to attend the Festival.
